XPANDER

XPANDER Leads the European Digital Product Passport Revolution

The adoption of the new European regulation for the digital product passport is marking a revolution in product traceability and sustainability. This regulatory change, which is paving the way for a gradual roll-out from 2024 and affects a wide range of products from machines and batteries to clothing and office supplies, aims to establish a circular economy standard from production to the end of the product's useful life. XPANDER is at the forefront of this transformation, leading the development and implementation of blockchain-based solutions for the digital passport.

XPANDER, in its effort to align its operations with this new regulation, has developed a digital passport for a variety of products, ensuring full traceability from origin to the end of the supply chain. This digital passport incorporates key elements such as:

  1. The carbon footprint of the production process.
  2. The control of all components used in the assembly.
  3. The product supply chain, ensuring unprecedented transparency and sustainability.

A concrete example of this initiative is XPANDER's collaboration with manufacturers in the automotive sector in order to create multidisciplinary teams capable of implementing the digital passport for batteries or with the Footwear Innovation and Technology Centre to create a digital passport for premium footwear, among other initiatives.

To demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of this solution, XPANDER has developed a pilot case using the Ford windscreen as a model. This project includes a unique identifier for each windscreen (VIN), tracing the entire supply chain from manufacture to installation in the vehicle. While this case does not cover the full cradle-to-grave cycle, it provides a comprehensive gate-to-gate view, a significant advance compared to current market practice.

This solution is hosted on a blockchain platform, which includes smart contracts and user registries, ensuring data security, transparency and integrity. The incorporation of IoT and the detailed visualisation of the carbon footprint of each product are distinctive features of this digital passport, positioning XPANDER as an innovation and sustainability leader in the market.

XPANDER is not only responding to the new regulations, but is also leading the way for other companies, setting an example of how blockchain technology can be used to improve sustainability and responsibility in the manufacturing and distribution of products. This innovative approach is not only in line with current regulations, but also opens the door to new opportunities in the circular economy, promoting a significant shift towards more sustainable and responsible practices in the industry.

XPANDER's initiative is a success story that highlights the power of technology to revolutionise the industry and set new standards for transparency and sustainability. As the European Digital Product Passport Regulation is implemented, XPANDER remains a key player in this transformation, leading the way for a more sustainable and responsible future in business.
